## WG Chair

WG Chairs provide overall leadership for a Working Group. They are responsible for running operations and processes governing the WG.

**Defined by:** Entry in [wgs.yaml] file in the kubeflow/community repo.

**Number:** 2-3 per Working Group

### Requirements

- Must be at least a [Member](#member) on the contributor ladder
- Have sufficient domain knowledge to provide effective leadership
- Show interest in people management

### Responsibilities

The following are the primary responsibilities of a WG Chair:

- Drive charter changes and get community buy-in
- Define how priorities and commitments are managed
- Organize and facilitate WG meetings
- Ensure meetings are recorded and made publicly available
- Report activity to the community via kubeflow-discuss mailing list at least once a quarter
- Coordinate communication with other WGs and the Steering Committee
- Ensure a maintained CONTRIBUTING.md document exists if the WG has specific contributor requirements
- Identify, track, and maintain WG enhancements for current releases
- If no Tech Lead role is present, assume Tech Lead responsibilities

### Privileges

- Decision making power over WG operations and processes
- Can nominate and approve Reviewers and Approvers
- Serve as escalation point for WG membership disagreements

## WG Tech Lead

WG Tech Leads provide technical leadership for a Working Group. This is an optional role - if not present, WG Chairs assume these responsibilities.

**Defined by:** Entry in [wgs.yaml] file in the kubeflow/community repo.

**Number:** 2-3 per Working Group (optional)

### Requirements

- Must be at least a [Member](#member) on the contributor ladder
- Have sufficient domain knowledge to provide effective technical leadership
- Demonstrated technical expertise in the WG's domain

### Responsibilities

- Establish new subprojects within the WG
- Decommission existing subprojects
- Resolve cross-subproject technical issues and decisions
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship

### Privileges

- Technical decision making authority for the WG
- Can approve subproject creation proposals
- Serve as escalation point for technical disagreements
