SafeLink Inspector is a Chrome extension and FastAPI backend that checks URLs through the VirusTotal API. It highlights links, detects malicious websites in real time, and helps you stay safe while browsing.
To get started, follow the steps below to download and install SafeLink Inspector.
You can download SafeLink Inspector from our Releases page.
- Click on the link above to visit the Releases page.
- Locate the latest version of SafeLink Inspector.
- Click on the file that corresponds to your system. For Chrome extensions, this typically involves a
.crxfile or similar. For the FastAPI backend, you might find a.zipfile. - Click to download the file to your computer.
- Open Google Chrome.
- Go to the Extensions page by clicking on the three dots in the upper right corner, selecting "More tools," and then "Extensions."
- Turn on "Developer mode" located at the top right of the Extensions page.
- Drag and drop the downloaded
.crxfile into the Extensions page. Chrome will prompt you to confirm the installation. - Click "Add extension" to complete the installation.
- Unzip the downloaded file.
- Open a command prompt or terminal.
- Navigate to the folder where you unzipped the files.
- Run the command to start the server. (Ensure you have Python installed on your machine.)
python -m fastapi_main
- Open your browser and go to
http://localhost:8000to access the backend.
To successfully run SafeLink Inspector, please ensure the following requirements are met:
- Operating System: Windows, MacOS, or Linux
- Browser: Google Chrome (latest version recommended)
- Internet Connection: Required for virus checks and updates
- Python: Version 3.6 or higher (for the backend)

- Easy to Install: Quick setup process without technical knowledge.
