Note: MacType will work with Firefox in DirectWrite mode without doing the below. However DirectWrite font rendering isn't as configurable as MacType GDI, which replaces GDI with the FreeType rendering engine from Linux. To do this, read on...
Firefox removed its cairo rendering since version 69.0, there is no way to bring it back.
To use MacType in GDI mode for Firefox versions 68.x.x and earlier (not recommended), do:
- In Firefox navigate to about:config
- Search for azure
- Change both graphics.canvas.azure.backends and graphics.content.azure.backends to direct2d1.1,cairo,skia
- Search for gfx.direct2d.disabled
- Double-click to change it to
true - Close and restart Firefox for the changes to take effect. Fonts should now be rendered with MacType
