About

The idea behind HEARIT.IO is three years old. It is a speaking home that makes the modern IoT (Internet of Things) devices convenient and easy to use for visually impaired people. We have proved that it is a perfect solution.

Team

We are a small enthusiastic group from Bulgaria - Emil, Nicole, Dimitar, Nedjalko, and Pavlin. The Union of the blind in Bulgaria and the blind and visually impaired community in Austria have given us their full endorsement and support for this project since the beginning.

Our Goal

The main goal of our project hearit.io is to make the world of the Internet of Things (IoT) accessible to everyone. We believe there should not be any technological, design, or speed limitations to do it.

We have added voice assistance to already available on the market devices with displays, light, and color indications in order to make them suitable for visually impaired users. As soon as you touch the device, it reports its state on an external speaker without the need of an internet connection, smartphone, tablet, or computer.

By using our progressive Web app, which is fully compatible with all screen readers (based on WAI-ARIA recommendation), we make your speaking home accessible from outside.

We need your financial support

Our platform is production-ready and available in three languages - English, German and Bulgarian. We have already integrated a device - a smart plug. We will use your funds for:

  • Integration of additional devices - smart thermostat, light sensor, and door lock.
  • Add additional languages.
  • Add support for devices suitable for countries outside Europe - USA, Canada, Australia.
  • Finance a software academy for visually impaired programmers to extend our team.

Reaching this goal will allow us to: Pay for text-to-speech and other cloud services. Cover costs for translation and integration of additional languages. Allocate more time for the development of new functionality. By and experiment with new devices.
