Choose a tag to compare

Windows 64-bit binaries.

This release is available through the auto-update facility in the Ctrl [A] About Box

These release notes can be read from the What's New? button in the About Box after the auto-update has completed, as well as the release notes for all previous releases.

Use Shift-[\] to open the MMP config dialog
Use Ctrl-[H] to open a [H]elp panel

Don't forget, the recommendation is to set openImage=browser and exitBrowser=exitApp and to associate all your audio, video and image file extensions with MMP using the provided mmp-install.bat file. This operates MMP as [in effect] two applications in one: the Main Media-Playing Window for playing (and editing) audio and video files, and the Image & Thumbnail Browser for viewing and managing all your image files. See the wiki to get the most from your use of MMP, particularly the MMP Config File topic

===== Release Notes v6.2.1 =====

Animated Window
output

  • as promised when v6.2.0 was released, the closure animation will now happen "in-place" wherever you have moved or resized the Main Media Window or the Image & Thumbnail Browser to on the desktop
  • fixed the "Open in Editor" issue introduced in v6.2.0
  • launching MMP directly into the Main Media Window for an image instead of into the Image & Thumbnail Browser is now deprecated
  • the long-recommended setting of "Open in [the Image & Thumbnail] Browser" when launching MMP with an image is now the standard functionality
  • exiting MMP when you exit the Image & Thumbnail Browser is also now standard functionality
  • you can still drop back to the Main Media Window for images if you wish using Ctrl-[X] in the Image & Thumbnail Browser
  • the Config Dialog has been amended to reflect the deprecation of the legacy functionality
  • minor tweaks to the animation mechanism to ensure it doesn't activate when not required

KNOWN ISSUES

There are currently no known issues. If you experience one, please create a New Issue at https://github.com/BazzaCuda/MinimalistMediaPlayerX/issues and it will be investigated immediately

A Note About MPV Playback
MMP: Minimalist Media Player uses MPV as a library (aka the libmpv-2.dll file) to perform all the playback of audio and video files and to display images. If you have any playback issues, especially with video files, it may help to download a different copy of libmpv-2.dll from https://github.com/shinchiro/mpv-winbuild-cmake/releases/.
You should download any mpv-dev-x86_64-v3......7z file. -dev- is the keyword to look for in the file name.
If you have a particularly old processor then ignore the v3 files and download any other mpv-dev-x86_64......7z file instead.

Quick Install

The quickest way to get up and running with MMP is to

  1. unzip the .zip file to any folder, e.g. C:\MMP\
  2. run the mmp-install.bat file which will register all the file extensions that MMP supports*
  3. double-click any media file (audio, video, image) in your File Explorer software

* mmp-uninstall.bat unregisters them.

Any issues, please let me know (Issues)

Wiki site
The fully-detailed wiki at minimalistmediaplayer.com continues to grow. The Wiki greatly expands on the brevity of the Ctrl [H] help panels by providing comprehensive info to help you get the most out of using all of MMP's many controls and configurable options.

If there is a particular aspect of MMP that you would like more information about, let me know and I will add a topic to the Wiki or enhance an existing topic.

Feedback
All feedback, issues and suggestions should be raised in Issues or Discussions. Either is fine.

Animated Window
output

  • MMP now boasts a cool new feature, particularly when playing videos, or when playing audio files that contain cover art
  • the Main Media Window will adapt smoothly to the new video or cover art dimensions
  • in the case of videos, this mimics being at the cinema when the screen resizes after the adverts and trailers to accommodate the size of the featured movie
  • the animations don't delay the start of playback whatsoever
  • launching straight into the Image & Thumbnail Browser to display an image can also be animated
  • when using [J] and [M] to adjust the window size to the aspect ratio of the image, the adjustment can be smoothly animated
  • exiting MMP and exiting the Image & Thumbnail Browser can be animated to give a very nice "closure" effect
  • the closure animation will currently only happen if auto-center is still in operation, which generally means that you haven't moved or resized the window with the mouse
  • this will be addressed in a future release
  • a new tab in the Config Dialog lets you edit the default settings:
image

Visual and Performance Enhancements

  • thumbnails are drawn quicker and more efficiently
  • eliminated the little flash/blip that happens after a full page of thumbnails has been drawn
  • eliminated the Main Media Window showing very briefly when you use an image to launch MMP directly into the Image & Thumbnail Browser
  • eliminated the Main Media Window displaying a small blank window which then gets resized to the size of the video you used to launch MMP
  • a brief "Loading playlist..." notice appears when launching MMP with a large folder containing thousands of images
  • you can now hit [Escape] to exit the About Box when it has been launched from the Image & Thumbnail Browser
  • when viewing thumbnails, holding down the [G] to increase the window size multiple times could result in the thumbnails being drawn over and over again until the keyboard buffer was exhausted. This has now been fixed
  • this also means that the thumbnail page can be now be resized by dragging a window edge. The thumbnails' response to the resize is now crisper and more decisive

===== Release Notes v6.1.0 =====

NEW FEATURES

New Control Action
Ctrl-Shift-[P] create a Preview/Contact Sheet
  • create a Preview/Contact Sheet almost instantly
    Goodfellas (1990)
  • in the .conf file (and the Config Dialog) you can
    • set the percentage of the video to skip at the beginning to allow for opening logos, etc (defaults to 5%)
    • set the percentage of the video to ignore at the end to allow for closing credits (defaults to 5%)
    • set the number of columns and rows (defaults to 4x5 - 5x5 shown as a non-default example)
    • set the width of each thumbnail (defaults to 300 pixels)
    • set whether you want to view the Contact/Preview Sheet as soon as it's created (opens in a new instance of MMP)
    • set whether you want the Preview Sheet saved as a high quality JPG or an even higher resolution PNG
  • these options are configurable from a new tab in the Config Dialog:
image
  • the new tab can also be accessed directly from the Options tab in the Audio & Video Timeline Editor:
2026-02-11_125420 editor options

Improvements

  • fixed a minor issue when exporting one single segment where you end up with both the exported segment and the final edited file, both of which are identical. This wastes disk space. The functionality to simply rename the one exported segment to the final edited file got lost during the many v6.0.0 enhancements. It has been restored
  • in the Audio & Video Timeline Editor when showing the default "Segment nn" segment titles, when you cut a segment in two you could end up with two segments with the same title and one wouldn't match its segment number. This didn't affect the export but it was a little confusing, visually. Segment titles are now kept unique
  • the ability to remove audio Covert Art from a file entirely by deselecting its stream has been restored
  • for some non-standard videos, if no streams were reported in the Editor, the Export button was disabled. It is now enabled regardless. When there are no streams reported and you only have the one default segment for the entire video, when you click Export, MMP will simply make a copy of the video file. This uses slightly different ffmpeg parameters from the current Copy facility, so between the two of them, you should be able to copy a malformed video file and edit the copy instead
  • the countdown of active shredding tasks reported in both the Main Media Window and the Image & Thumbnail Browser now gives a smoother countdown, particularly when there are large numbers of files involved
  • you can now edit files which contain apostrophes in their file name. Previously, such a file would break the ffmpeg command line parameters but a fix for this has now been implemented. Until now, MMP actively prevented you from opening the Editor until you had fixed the file name. This restriction has now been lifted
  • if you already have the Audio & Video Timeline Editor open, the lower parts of the Ctrl-[H] quick Help panel and the [P] Playlist panel will now display on top of the Segments & Streams Panel

New Look Image & Thumbnail Browser
image

  • the browser now follows the Main Media Window theming without a standard thick window frame. This makes images more immersive and focal, the same as with videos. It also makes the browser more responsive to resizing and to drawing thumbnails
  • on that point, when viewing thumbnails, the best way to resize the window is still with [G] and Ctrl-[G] as it resizes based on the size of the thumbnails, which makes it significantly faster to respond than trying to drag a window edge with the mouse
  • the lack of a standard window frame (with the exception of the title bar) makes the status bar and all its information much more subtle and unobtrusive, and keeps the displayed image as the main focus
  • when first launched, the Image & Thumbnail Browser window will match the aspect ratio of the image that launched it so that the image fits the window perfectly. Of course, you can always use [J] or [M] on any image:
    • [J] will ad[J]ust the window's height to match the image's aspect ratio
    • [M]aximize will do the same thing but at the largest size for the height of your monitor
  • with the browser, you can get a lot done with the window and the displayed image using just a combination of [G], Ctrl-[G], [H], [J] and [M], all handily-located in the middle of your keyboard

===== Release Notes v6.0.0 =====

NEW & ENHANCED FEATURES

  • a subtle prettification of the playlist background (example from the audio player):
image
  • the shred-delete function has been optimized for modern SSDs and is now significantly faster: 66.67% faster in fact

New in the Main Media Window

  • when listening to videos through an external audio device, the audio can sometimes lag behind the video picture. New controls Ctrl-[\] and Ctrl-[/] now let you adjust the audio/video sync to bring forward the audio [relative to the video] in order to remove the lag

  • in addition to all the many [Tab] and [T]abbing controls for tabbing/skipping/advancing/rewinding forwards and backwards through an audio or video, you can now Shift-Left-Arrow and Shift-Right-Arrow to skip backwards/forwards by a set number of seconds which you can specify in the "skipSeconds=" setting in the MinimalistMediaPlayer.conf file. MMP will default to 5

  • when you delete the current audio or video file ([Del]), you can also opt to cleanup, at the same time, any remaining Audio & Video Timeline Editor files in the current folder. These two operation frequently go hand-in-hand when editing audio/video files so combining them adds additional convenience for the user; Shift-[DEL] will carry out a combined [DEL] and Ctrl-Shift-[C]

  • the Confirm Delete Dialog will notify that this will occur and will require you to check the "Are you sure?" box

New Control Action
Ctrl-[\] bring audio forward, relative to the video
Ctrl-[/] delay audio, relative to the video
Shift-[→] right arrow skip forwards 5 seconds or skipSeconds= value in .conf file
Ctrl-[←] left arrow skip backwards 5 seconds or skipSeconds= value in .conf file
Shift-[Del] do a combined [Del] and Ctrl-Shift-[Del] to cleanup Timeline Editor files

New in the Image & Thumbnail Browser

  • a new audio/video panel was added to the status bar in v5.4.0 which lights up to alert you when the current folder also contains audio and/or video files. As of v6.0.0, if you click this panel you will exit out to the Main Media Window where the current image will be displayed. You can then view the playlist ([P]) to see which audio/files are in the current folder. Unless you play any of these files, Ctrl-[I] will re-show the image back in the Image & Thumbnail Browser or [T] will re-open the browser in [T]humbnail mode. Alternatively, if you do play one of the audio/video files in the playlist, [Y] will immediately re-open the Image & Thumbnail Browser, albeit in [T]humbnail mode
  • clicking the audio/video panel is the equivalent of the existing functionality of using Ctrl-[X] to eXit the Image & Thumbnail Browser and drop back to the Main Media Window, or by clicking the window's X in the top right corner to do the same
  • in previous versions, if you made adjustments to an image (Brightness, Contrast, Rotation, etc.) the right/left arrow key navigation controls would be disabled so that you didn't lose your adjustments by accidentally hitting an arrow key and moving to another image. Now, your adjustments are applied to every image you navigate to until you cancel some or all of the adjustments. Consequently, moving to another image and back again, whether accidentally or not, will not lose your adjustments, so the arrow keys are no longer disabled
  • all the [F1]-[F12] function keys are reserved for user-defined folders meaning that the [F10], [F11] and [F12] keys to launch external applications have until now only been available from the Main Media Window. By dexterous use of a [Ctrl] key in combination with [F10], [F11] or [F12], external applications can now also be launched from the Image & Thumbnail Browser, with the full path to the displayed image file passed as a parameter to said application
  • Ctrl-[Z] has been added as an alias for Ctrl-[U]ndo, to undo the previous move/save
  • [T] will now switch between [T]humbnail mode and viewing the current image full size. Previously, you could only exit [T]humbnail mode by clicking on a thumbnail to view the full size image
New Control Action
Ctrl-[F10] launch an external app with the current image
Ctrl-[F11] launch an external app with the current image
Ctrl-[F12] launch an external app with the current image
[T] toggle/switch between [T]humbnail mode and a full size image
Ctrl-[Z] alias for Ctrl-[U] - undo the previous move/save
click Audio/Video alert panel drop back to the Main Media Window to view audio and video files

New Full Help Dialog

  • v6.0.0 introduces a brand new Full Help dialog (Ctrl-Shift-[H]) to assist you in understanding everything that MMP can do and to assist with learning the many controls, so that you can get the best use of MMP. MMP provides around 200 mouse and keyboard functions for playing, viewing and managing your entire library of audio, video and image files, and for carrying out fast (really fast!), lossless editing of audio and video files, without the time-consuming need to re-encode them. It has been a concern for some time now that it can be a little overwhelming for new users to get a grip on just how much functionality is actually built into MMP - the minimalist design obviously bears some responsibility for this. The new Full Help dialog is in addition to the current "Quick Help" summary help panels (Ctrl-[H])
  • All of the MMP controls can continue to be used while this new help dialog is open
image
  • the new fully-integrated Full Help panel includes a previous-next, history navigation mechanism and the ability to jump directly to related sections of the Help Dialog, the Config Dialog and the official Ctrl-[W] Wiki
  • both the Full Help Dialog and the Config Dialog can be open at the same time. You can close each one in turn using [Escape]

New in the Config Dialog

  • a new tab has been added for setting keyframes permanently on. The Config Dialog as a whole aims to be instructional and informative about how to use the features of MMP, rather than just provide a series of obscure check boxes, and the new tab follows in this vein:
image
  • the Config Dialog has been enhanced to make navigating the various tabs easier and now uses the same approach as the new Full Help panel with the topics also listed on the left in addition to tab captions
  • the topics are listed in alphabetical order on the left, and the tabs are arranged in order of typical frequency of use
  • the explanation of the Playlist Filter options in the Config Dialog has been brought up-to-date

New in the Audio & Video Timeline Editor

  • the color palette for the Timeline and the Segments & Streams Panel has been softened and some color added to make it all easier on the eyes rather than the previous rather stark monochrome color palette
  • when editing audio files, album cover art is now included as a stream and can be included or excluded from the exported file just like any other stream
  • if an audio file doesn't contain cover art, you can attach a "cover.jpg" file to the exported file
  • a right-click on a segment will toggle whether that segment will be included or excluded from the final edit. As this doesn't alter which segment is currently selected in the Timeline, this is more convenient than having to left-click a segment to firstly select it, and then having to press [X] or [R] to e[X]clude a segment or to [R]estore a previously e[X]cluded segment
  • the correlation between MediaInfo's stream indexes/indices and FFmpeg's has been greatly improved. The editor now lists streams according to the indexes that FFmpeg will assign them. This makes exports more robust, especially for non-standard video containers, and helps when examining the .log file after exporting your edited media file
  • you can now create chapters in your exported file from your exported segments. They can be given titles
    • previously, chapter titles were initially loaded from the media file but then discarded
    • chapter titles are now saved to the .mmp file containing your segment definitions
    • double-clicking a segment in the Timeline Editor or in the Segments & Streams Panel pops up a dialog for you to edit the segment/chapter title
    • if you wish, you can display chapter titles for editing purposes but not have the chapters created in the exported file

This release is available through the auto-update facility in the Ctrl [A] About Box

Correction: it wasn't. I named the zip file incorrectly, so MMP wouldn't have found it. My apologies for the inconvenience. I have now corrected the name of the zip file, and Auto Update now seems to be working again

===== Release Notes v5.4.0 =====

** NEW **

Audio & Video Timeline Editor:

  • KeyFrame processing has been completely rewritten
  • ffprobe only returns keyframe information for the minute currently being played
  • keyframe information will only be retrieved for the parts of the video you actually view during editing
  • rather than running ffprobe in the background to return the keyframe information for the entire video in one go, the .key file (and the keyframe cache) is now built-up gradually, minute by minute. This enormously speeds-up keyframe info retrieval
  • This is particularly true using a sample 4K, VP9 animated movie for which an enormous amount of keyframe info would be returned by ffprobe. This has now been reduced to no more than a few seconds. For standard videos, the info is obtained almost instantaneously
  • when you turn on keyframes in the Audio & Video Timeline Editor using [F], this will be confirmed in the notification area (bottom right corner) with keyframes on
  • subsequently, each time you jump to a new section of the video for which keyframe info has not yet been retrieved, the notification area will display keyframes... indicating that new keyframe info is being retrieved from ffprobe
  • the progress bar will flash when the keyframe info has been retrieved and is in operation for the minute of video currently being viewed
  • there is now very little gap between these two notification signals and in many cases they will appear simultaneously
  • if you simply play through a video, you will see that each time it hits the minute mark, the new keyframe info is retrieved and the progress bar flashes
  • the ffprobe parameters have been tweaked to make ffprobes's keyframe retrieval faster and more efficient, ironically by getting it to report more info than previously, and then performing some post-processing on the keyframe info
  • if a .key file already exists for a video when the Audio & Video Timeline Editor initializes for that video file, the keyframe info from that .key file will be preloaded when you turn on keyframes with [F], and the progress bar will flash to signal that it was loaded
  • if the .key file is out of date for the video being edited, it will be cleared and rebuilt as you view the video, as described above
  • only one ffprobe keyframe-info-retrieval process will run at a time. If you grab the editor's vertical cursor and drag it along the timeline, you will populate some of the keyframe info for the minutes you have dragged through, but not all. There is no advantage to trying to pre-load the keyframe info cache using the vertical cursor
  • a new MinimalistMediaPlayer.conf file setting keyframes= can be set to yes or no. Keyframe processing is so fast now that it is viable to permanently default to keyframes being on when the Audio & Video Timeline Editor is opened. This option will be added to the Shift-[\] Config Dialog in a subsequent release. For now, the setting will need to be set manually
  • if you perform a Ctrl-Shift-[C] auto-cleanup of Audio & Video Timeline Editor files with the editor open and keyframes set on, the .key file for the current video will deleted. However, the in-memory keyframe cache will remain intact for as long as the editor remains open. The next time the editor needs to obtain new keyframe info, the entire .key file will be rebuilt from the keyframe cache and saved back to disk

FIXED

In v5.3.2 if you exported an edited video when the previous export already existed (the [edited] version), MMP issued an unnecessary "hard stop" to MPV while it deleted the previous export. Once this happened there was no way to resume playback of the video being edited without either

  • going to another video in the playlist and then back to the original
  • closing and re-opening MMP
  • manually deleting the previous [edited] export before exporting again

This has now been fixed and you can repeatedly re-edit and re-export the video as with previous releases

* mmp-uninstall.bat unregisters them.

Any issues, please let me know (Issues)

UPDATE: KNOWN ISSUE
If you export an edited video when the previous export already exists (the [edited] version), MMP will issue an unnecessary "hard stop" to MPV while it tries to delete the previous export. Once this happens there is no way to resume playback of the video being edited without either

  • going to another video in the playlist and then back to the original,
  • closing and re-opening MMP
  • manually deleting the previous [edited] export before exporting again

A fix for this is currently being worked and will be released imminently.

===== Release Notes v5.3.2 =====

** NEW **

  • Image & Thumbnail Browser: when browsing through your image folders, a new panel in the status bar will light up when there are also audio and/or video files in the current folder. This is in addition to the current warning you already get if you try to mass-delete the current folder's contents from the Image & Thumbnail Browser and that folder also contains audio and/or video files mixed in with the image files you've been viewing

FIXES

  • Main Media Window: fixed minor "end-of-drive" issue when nextFolderOnEnd and nextFolderOnEmpty are set, and MMP gets to the end of the drive without finding another audio/video file to play. This issue was probably only apparent in development builds not in release builds
  • Main Media Window: the code which searches for the next media file to play (when nextFolderOnEnd and nextFolderOnEmpty are set) has been rewritten to better allow for it to navigate through hundreds of folders which don't contain a suitable file. Previously, this could cause a silent "overflow" error and MMP would close. MMP will now correctly search until the end of the drive to find a suitable media file to play
  • after completing a Ctrl-[K] Keep/Delete operation, the playlist is now rebuilt and will contain only the remaining "Kept" files
  • various other minor fixes, corrections and efficiency improvements

===== Release Notes v5.3.0 =====

NEW FUNCTIONALITY

  • When exporting an edited video in the Timeline Editor, FFmpeg might report an error when extracting one or more segments of the video
2025-12-15_165955 export failed 1
  • Clicking the Rerun button will display something similar to this [contrived example]:
2025-12-15_170027 export failed 2
  • such messages often mention problems with the stream mapping, e.g. "Stream map '' matches no streams" (see the first line of red text, above)
  • although FFmpeg error messages can seem daunting, the solution to this one, and several others, is to simply have FFmpeg make its own copy of the video file
  • when doing so, FFmpeg reads and rewrites all the streams it finds. This can often correct problems caused by some video-creation software

Making an MMP / FFmpeg-compatible copy of the video file has now been automated

  • with the Ctrl-[E] Timeline Editor open, hold down Ctrl-Shift and move the mouse over the Export button
  • the Export button will change to Copy
2025-12-15_221041 copy
  • when you click Copy, MMP will make a copy of both the media file and its corresponding .mmp file
  • it will also make a copy of any keyframe .key file
copying
  • the copy operation will be as quick as if you were to copy the file yourself
  • the file name of the copy will match the original with the addition of [c], e.g. "myvideo [c].mp4"
  • a Console window will open showing you the progress of the FFmpeg copy operation
progress
  • for large video files (the example above is a 9GB file which took ~20 seconds to copy), the most useful information is the time=hh:mm:ss.ms timestamp on the last line which will show where FFmpeg has got to
  • you can cancel the copy operation by clicking the Cancel button or by closing this Console window
  • the copy will be loaded into the current playlist and will be loaded into the Timeline Editor
  • the file will be positioned at the correct timestamp
  • if the [audio or] video file was playing during the copy operation, the copy will continue playing at the exact point at which the copy operation completed, otherwise playback will be paused
  • although not guaranteed, for many common FFmpeg problems with video files, when you click Export now, it often results in a successful export of your edited video

FIXES

  • in most media files, stream IDs tend to correlate with the stream indices. Occasionally, this isn't the case. Either way, MMP should only use stream IDs for display purposes in the Segments & Streams panel, and only use stream indices in FFmpeg parameters. This is now the case

ASSETS

  • this release includes new versions of ffmpeg.exe, ffprobe.exe, MediaInfo.dll and libmpv-2.dll (MPV as a library)
  • you will need to update these manually: Auto Update will only update MinimalistMediaPlayer.exe
  • you are advised to make backup copies of your existing files before overwriting them

===== Release Notes v5.2.0 =====

IMPORTANT FIXES

  • there was an occasional, intermittent, non-predictable, non-repeatable access violation when delete-shredding or Ctrl-[M] moving the currently-playing video. This caused a continuous stream of popup error messages to be generated, and required the user to manually kill MMP using a Task Manager. The cause of this problem appears to have been identified and fixed
  • doing a Ctrl-[M] move of the current video when the Timeline Editor was open caused the Timeline Editor to create and maintain a .mmp editor file for the moved video in the destination Moved= folder, rather than in the current folder for the next video actually being edited. Consequently, any subsequent Export operation worked on the moved video file instead. A bizarre and elusive bug which has now has been fixed
  • GitHub has once again changed the URL entries for images included in release notes. Auto Update now allows for the new entries when downloading release notes and images will be correctly displayed when viewing release notes from the Ctrl-[A] About Box
  • launching MMP when there are existing .segnn. segment files created by the Timeline Editor results in those video segment files correctly being included in the playlist for the current folder. Doing a subsequent Ctrl-Shift-[C] cleanup of Timeline Editor files will now remove them from the playlist, whereas previously they remained in the playlist
  • when you batch-delete/shred several files at a time, e.g. with Ctrl-[Del] folder contents, or Ctrl-Shift-[C] cleanup of Timeline Editor files, MMP will prevent you from issuing further deletion operations until the current batch-delete operation has completed
  • the previous release broke the Ctrl-Shift-[C] cleanup of Timeline Editor files so that nothing happened. This has been corrected

update: see Known Issues below

===== Release Notes v5.1.6 =====

FIXES

There were two notable issues when deleteMethod=recycle:

Firstly, the delete/recycle code wasn't calling the full Unicode-supported Windows API. Consequently, it wasn't clear if files that contained Unicode characters were always recycled correctly

Secondly, not all removable drives are supported by the Windows Recycle Bin. If you try to delete a file to the Recycle Bin from an unsupported drive, Windows will simply delete the file

  • For example, a standard 2TB NTFS-formatted SanDisk USB Drive is likely to be supported by the Windows Recycle Bin; conversely, a Micro SD card mounted as a drive via a USB adaptor might not be supported
  • if you have set deleteMethod=recycle and try to delete a file, MMP will now check whether that drive is supported by the Windows Recycle Bin
  • if it is, MMP will continue with the delete/recycle operation
  • if not, MMP will now warn you that continuing with the delete operation will simply delete the file(s)

e.g. for removable drives:

2025-12-01_181813 png recyclebin1

For fixed drives which have been set to not use the Windows Recycle Bin:

2025-12-01_181634 png recyclebin2

N.B. If you choose to continue, the usual confirmation dialog will appear asking if you want to delete the file(s); it will report your deleteMethod=recycle setting but will warn that you are about to delete the file rather than recycle it

KNOWN ISSUES

  1. This release broke the Ctrl-Shift-[C] cleanup of Timeline Editor files. This will be corrected on the next release. If this is a major problem for you, let me know over at Issues and I will bring forward the release of v5.1.7

  2. There is an occasional, intermittent access violation when shredding certain videos or Ctrl-[M] moving them.
This generates a series of popup messages and MMP must be killed from a Task Manager program to prevent them.
This happens infrequently and there currently doesn't seem to be any pattern as to which videos this will affect.
If you think you might know why this happens to certain videos but not the vast majority, please let me know.
Update: a possible fix for this is currently being tested

Other than that...

There are currently no known issues. If you experience one, please create a New Issue at https://github.com/BazzaCuda/MinimalistMediaPlayerX/issues and it will be investigated immediately

  2. run the mmp-install.bat file which will register all the file extensions that MMP supports*
  3. double-click any media file (audio, video, image) in your File Explorer software

* mmp-uninstall.bat unregisters them.

Asset files
The "...full.zip" release file below contains everything you need to run MMP: Minimalist Media Player:

  • MinimalistMediaPlayer.exe
  • MediaInfo.dll
  • libmpv-2.dll
  • ffmpeg.exe
  • ffprobe.exe
  • libeay32.dll
  • ssleay32.dll

N.B. Only MinimalistMediaPlayer.exe will be updated automatically. If the zip file contains newer versions of the other files, you should update and test these for yourself to ensure they will run on your Windows system. MMP will not make that assumption and overwrite your working versions. You are advised to make a copy of the older versions in case you need to revert to them.
