Nearly (or perhaps) all computer science techniques for generating solutions and value can be found in mechanical engineering, from creating levels of indirection to solve mechanical problems to greater precision.

Always look for it.

Gears, for example turn analog problems into digital ones. A wedge is in between analog and digital, the computer science parallel is probably the CPU register.
